A glance at Colza oil

All cooking oils are mainly composed of three types of fatty acids: saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. These fatty acids vary in proportions in different types of cooking oils. Among fatty acids monosaturated fatty acids are the best fats for health. COLZA OIL (Canola oil or rapeseed oil) is largely composed of monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids (85%). Unsaturated fats reduce blood lipid levels when they replace saturated fats and trans-fats in alimentation. Mediterranean diet with canola oil base (instead of butter and cream) can reduce 50% to 70% recurrence of coronary ailments over diet low in gras. Clinical evidence shows that canola oil can decrease levels of LDL cholesterol ("bad") cholesterol and total and triglycérides in blood levels compared to a diet rich in saturated fat.

ANTIOXIDANTS Like most vegetable oils, canola oil contains antioxidants.
• Vitamin E - Canola oil contains about 17 mg per serving of 15 ml. Major form of Vitamin E is gamma-tocophérol. High levels of gamma-tocopherol in the blood have protective effect against prostate cancer. It protects the membrane that surrounds the body cells, especially red blood cells and white blood cells (immune cells).
• Phytosterols - Canola oil contains about 100 mg of phytosterols per serving of 15 ml (1 tbsp.) These sterols are shown to reduce cholesterol absorption in the gut, thereby reducing the blood cholesterol levels. Food cooked in canola oil thus offers an attractive source of phytosterols for cardiovascular health.
•Vitamin K - Canola oil is a good source of Vitamin K which plays an important role in blood clotting and bone formation.

Lets know Canola (rapeseed)

The name rapeseed comes from the word "rape" from the Dutch koolzaad (or coolzaad) which literally means "cabbage seed." Mention of rapeseed in French literature dates back to 1671. The word Canola is a contraction of Canadian Oil Low Acid adopted by Canada to differentiate traditional rapeseed containing high concentration of erucic acid and glucosinolates from low erucic acid rapeseed.

Canola and GMOs

Major type of canola grown in the world is genetically modified that is intended to make herbicide-resistance to control weeds. It helps keep the cost of production of relatively low canola oil. In European Union the cultivation of genetically modified canola is strictly controlled. Since 1991, virtually all rapeseed production in the European Union has shifted to rapeseed 00 (double zero), with low content of erucic acid and low content of glucosinolates. The production of rapeseed in the European Union is still “conventional”, that is does not contain genetically modified.

Olive oil

Olive oil is one of the best sources of monounsaturated fatty acids. Regular consumption of olive oil in salad dressings and cooking showed a low incidence of coronary heart disease and certain cancers.

Active ingredients Monounsaturated fatty acids: About 75% of the lipids of the olive oil are monounsaturated fats whose consumption is associated to reduced incidence of cardio vascular diseases by lowering the LDL cholesterol ("bad") and raising HDL cholesterol in the blood. Antioxidants: Olive oil contains a significant amount of phenolic compounds among which hydroxytyrosol and oleuropéine are the major ones. Regular consumption of olive oil rich in phenolic compounds may reduce the oxidative stress damages and also confers protection against the onset of certain diseases, including cancer and cardiovasculaires disorders.
